Bats Battle Back, Edge Indians 2-1

LOUISVILLE, Ky. - The Bats battled from behind to win the opener of a four-game series with the Indianapolis Indians by a 2-1 margin on Saturday at Louisville Slugger Field.
Overcoming a 1-0 deficit the was accrued off a solo homerun in the top of the sixth inning, the Bats received dominant pitching and defensive support that included a one-run performance from right-hander Jair Jurrjens, Tucker Barnhart gunning down his fourth and fifth runners of the year, and a 7-6-3 double play that ended the game.
A ball from the bat of Mel Rojas that looked as if it were certainly going to drop in the gap was robbed by Hernan Iribarren, who then relayed a throw to Negron, who turned and burned the game-ending throw to first base to double-off the runner.
Jurrjens went five complete before allowing a run, pitching seven innings and permitting one run off of six hits while walking two and striking out five. His most efficient outing of the season, Jurrjens' seven-inning performance was his longest of the year and his one earned run is the fewest he's surrendered since his debut in Louisville on the second of June.
The Bats were held scoreless until the bottom of the seventh inning when Kristopher Negron singled to right field, scoring Rey Navarro and evening the score at 1-1. Negron scored three batters later when Hernan Iribarren singled to center field, giving the Bats the 2-1 lead.
Louisville sent right-hander Curtis Partch to the mound in the eighth inning to relieve Jurrjens and protect the one-run lead. Partch struck out the first two batters he faced and allowed only a hit before ending the inning.
Indianapolis right-hander Jay Jackson pitched a shutout five and two-hirds innings before exiting the game, allowing only three hits while walking two and striking out six.
Louisville will host the Indians for one more game before traveling and finishing the series in Indianapolis. The Bats will send left-handed pitcher David Holmberg (0-4, 6.88) to the mound to face Indians right-hander Nick Kingham (2-0, 0.44) tomorrow at 6:05 p.m. at Louisville Slugger Field.
