RailRiders Roast 'Pigs in 4-3 Win

Allentown, Pa. - The chase for the IronRail Trophy heated up Saturday night at Coca-Cola Park as the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders (Triple-A/New York Yankees) rode an early barrage of extra-base hits to a 4-3 win over the Lehigh Valley IronPigs (Philadelphia Phillies). The triumph over the 'Pigs moves the RailRiders (39-42) to 3-6 this season against Lehigh Valley (39-43). SWB has now claimed the last the last two affairs between the in-state rivals.

Chris Leroux twirled five innings and allowed one run while the RailRiders' offense followed suit with a home run and and three extra-base hits to propel the club to the early 4-0.

The RailRiders never trailed, plating all four runs in the first third of the game. Barry Enright got the nod for the 'Pigs and promptly allowed two runs in the first. After issuing Jose Pirela on an infield fly, the next five batters reached base, including a two-run double by Scott Sizemore.

Two more runs followed in the visiting third. Rob Refsnyder sparked the two-run frame launching a bullet to left field that got caught in the outfield padding. The end result was an infield the park home run that put the RailRiders up 4-0 after the visiting third.

SWB held on, as Lehigh Valley comprised a late rally, first plating a run in the home third on a double by Tyler Henson. The final two tallies plated on run-scoring knocks by Maikel Franco and Leandro Castro in the home sixth.

Leroux (1-2) departed after five complete frames and picked up the win in his first start since April 21. Enright, despite grinding through 5.2 innings, was slated with his sixth-straight losing decision. Reliever Matt Daley (7) entered in the ninth and worked around a leadoff base hit to strikeout the side and secure the save.

The RailRiders conclude the short road trip Sunday, June 29 against the Lehigh Valley with a 1:30 p.m. start. The RailRiders are still TBA while Lehigh Valley summons right-hander Chris Bootcheck (2-3, 4.50).
