Jackson Generals News Release
MONTGOMERY, ALA. (JULY 20, 2014) - The Generals (12-17, 43-55) received the first home runs of the year from Leon Landry (2x5, 2 R, 2B, HR RBI) and Ketel Marte (2x4, 2 R, HR, 2 RBI, BB), but it was not enough as Montgomery (16-14/51-49) walked off for the second consecutive night with a 9-8 win on Sunday at Riverwalk Stadium. The loss dropped Jackson to 6-16 in one-run games and Montgomery takes the series, winning three of five.
Montgomery took the lead for the second consecutive night as Taylor Motter hit his tenth home run of the season in the bottom of the first. The long ball gave the Biscuits the early 1-0 lead, but Jackson came back quickly.
With one out and one on in the third, Landry doubled to put two runners in scoring position. Two batters later D.J. Peterson (1x4, 2 R, BB) reached on an error that brought home Brock Hebert (2x4, 2 R) for the Generals first run of the game. Jackson took their first lead one batter later as Pat Kivlehan (1x4, 2 RBI) singled home Landry and Peterson to make the score 3-1 Generals.
The Biscuits offense exploded in the fourth inning as Motter led off with his second home run of the game. Two consecutive walks were followed by a double from Jeff Malm that plated two more runs and Montgomery was back on top, 4-3. Another two-run double in the inning from Ryan Brett scored Malm and Willie Argo and the Biscuits seemed to have control 6-3.
Landry came to the plate in the fifth with one out and the bases clear, but hit his first long ball of the season to cut the lead to 6-4. Montgomery came right back in the bottom half, though, as Cameron Seitzer scored on a sacrifice fly from Argo and the three-run lead was back in tact at 7-4.
The Generals were not conceding yet as Kivlehan reached on an error in the seventh that allowed Marte to score and Julio Morban (1x5, RBI) followed with an RBI base hit that brought home Peterson and the lead had been cut to one at 7-6.
An inning later Marte came back to the plate with two outs and a runner on and joined his teammate Landry with his first homer of the season as well. The two-run shot put Jackson back on top 8-7 with the game's fourth lead change.
But the Biscuits flare for the dramatics bit the Generals again, as Seitzer singled home Ryan Brett to tie the game. Alejandro Segovia followed with another single that brought in Jake Hager with the winning run and Montgomery finished their second walk-off in as many days.
Trevor Miller (4-8, 4.93) suffered the loss for Jackson as Cory Burns (1-1, 3.72) picked up the win for the Biscuits. Starter Tyler Pike allowed six runs in 3.2 innings, but did not factor into the decision.
The Generals will travel back to Jackson to begin a five-game set against the Huntsville Stars on Monday. Jackson will have Matt Anderson (3-4, 5.16) make the start as Drew Gagnon (6-4, 3.21) will be on the bump for Huntsville. The game will begin at 7:05 p.m. and can be heard on 96.5 ESPN, TuneIn Radio and jacksongeneralsbaseball.com.
