JACKSON, Ten. - The Biscuits (69-56) fought hard until the end, but dropped their first series of the season against the Jackson Generals (66-58) in the series finale and rubber match on Saturday night at The Ballpark at Jackson, 4-3.
J.D. Martin (7-10) made a start for the Biscuits, and Nick Solak provided the knuckleballer with an early lead with a solo home run in the first off Barry Enright (2-1) to make it 1-0 Biscuits. The Generals answered back in the bottom half of the first, loading the bases against Martin, and then getting a pair of RBI-groundouts from Marty Herum and Rudy Flores that put the Generals in front, 2-1.
The Generals loaded the bases again in the second before Kevin Medrano yanked an RBI-single and increased the Jackson lead to 3-1. The Generals loaded the bases in the fourth and fifth as well, but Matt Krook and Spencer Jones both got out of each jam to keep it a two-run game.
Neither team scored again until the seventh when Josh Prince stepped up and clubbed a solo blast over the left-center field wall to make it 4-1 Generals. The Biscuits would not go away quietly, however, as they finally started to get to Enright, recording six hits between the fifth and seventh.
Solak then popped another longball in the eighth to make it a 4-2 game, giving the left fielder his first multi-home run game of the season. In the ninth, David Rodriguez reached first on an error, and then scored on a Jake Cronenworth two-out RBI-single. That brought Solak back up, but this time the Rays number 10 prospect lined out to center to end the game.
The Biscuits still have a five-game lead in the Second Half North Division standings, and will return home on Sunday, August 19 for a 10-game homestand to close out the regular season. Montgomery welcomes the Chattanooga Lookouts for five games, which includes Alabama State vs. Tuskegee Night on T-Shirt Thursday on August 23. The Tennessee Smokies come into the Capital City for Troy University and Community Night with MAX Fireworks on August 24. Alabama/Auburn Night, presented by 95.1 The Fox, and MAX Fireworks is on Saturday, August 25. AUM Night, featuring a 2019 Schedule Poster Giveaway, will be Sunday, August 26, and then the series concludes with Fan Appreciation Night on Tuesday, August 28.
