Biscuits Edge BayBears in 1-0 Shutout

MONTGOMERY, AL -- The Mobile BayBears fell to 1-2 in second-half play with a 1-0 shutout defeat to the Montgomery Biscuits Saturday night at Riverwalk Stadium. Mobile would load the bases in the top of the ninth inning and out hit Montgomery in the contest 6-5 but ultimately the BayBears fell for their sixth shutout loss of the season.
BayBears bats were held in check by Biscuits RHP Victor Mateo (8-4) who limited Mobile to just four hits over eight innings. In the ninth inning, with Montgomery still leading by one, RHP Matt Ramsey took the mound and surrendered back-to-back singles to Tom Belza and Jake Lamb. Then with two outs, Ramsey walked Gerson Montilla to load the bases. Garrett Weber stood in the batter's box with the tying run at third and the go-ahead run on second but Ramsey struck out the BayBears last hope to earn his fourth save of the season.
The lone run of the ballgame came in the bottom of the sixth inning. Jake Hager led-off the inning with a double, then a wild pitch by BayBears RHP Charles Brewer (3-2) moved Hager to third. After a strikeout, Cameron Seitzer hit a ground ball to short that was deflected by Lamb, the third baseman and the infield single allowed Hager to score.
Brewer matched Mateo in the hit column, only allowing the one earned run on four hits, striking out six batters in six innings on the mound. Mobile finished the game 0-for-6 with runners in scoring position, leaving seven men on base while Montgomery went 1-for-13 in the same scenario but the "1" was the difference.
Mobile and Montgomery continue the five-game series with game four Sunday night. First pitch at Riverwalk Stadium is scheduled for 5:35 PM. The Biscuits will send RHP Angel Sanchez (0-0, 0.00) to the mound. RHP Mike Lee (4-3, 3.95 ERA) will take the hill for the BayBears.
After the BayBears finish their road trip in Montgomery, Mobile will return to Hank Aaron Stadium for a five games series against the Jacksonville Suns starting on June 24, at 7:05 PM.
