Stars Fall in Extra Innings

Pensacola, FL-The Pensacola Blue Wahoos stormed back from a two run deficit in the ninth inning and posted a 4-3 win over the Huntsville Stars in eleven innings Sunday at Bayfront Stadium.

With the Stars leading 3-1 in the ninth, Stars RHP Casey Medlen walked Brodie Greene. Jessee Winker singled to left field. Seth Majias-Brean then drew a walk to load the bases.

Medlen exited the game and in came RHP Tanner Poppe. Poppe struck out Ross Perez. The next batter Travis Mattair was hit by Poppe on a 22 pitching scoring Greene making it 3-2.

Poppe was able to strikeout Marquez Smith. With two outs though, Winker scored on a passed ball by Joey Paciorek tying the game at 3-3.

In the bottom of the eleventh, Stars RHP Tommy Toledo(3-1) walked Winker to start the inning. Winker advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt.

Two batters later Mattair drove a pitch over CF D'Vontrey Richardson's head scoring Winker giving the Blue Wahoos a 4-3 walkoff victory.

LHP Brent Suter took a no decision for the Stars after he pitched seven innings. He allowed just three hits on one run.

The Stars took a 2-1 lead in the second inning after back to back homeruns by Paciorek and Greg Hopkins.

Hainley Statia had an rbi single for the Stars in the sixth inning which increased the Stars lead to 3-1.

The Stars(2-2, 47-26) and Blue Wahoos(2-2, 32-41)are tied 2-2 in their five game series. The rubber match will be on Monday night. RHP Andy Moye(7-5, 3.65) will start for the Stars. Pensacola will have RHP Ben Lively(0-0,0.00) on the mound. Monday's game can be heard with Steve Jarnicki starting at 3:45 pm CDT on 92.9 FM, 1450 AM and wtkiradio.com.
