Montgomery, Ala - The Mobile BayBears opened up a five game series with a 12-1 loss to the Montgomery Biscuits on Thursday night at Riverwalk Stadium. The loss was the BayBears fifth in-a-row and with Mississippi beating Jacksonville, Mobile falls to five games back of the M-Braves for first place in the Southern League South Division Standings.
Montgomery (26-20, 60-56) used four home runs, tallying 12 total runs on 16 hits to hand the BayBears their worst loss of the season. It was the first Double-A loss for BayBears LHP Josh Taylor (3-1). The lefty allowed six earned runs on eight hits, walking five and striking out four in just 3.2 innings on the mound.
Mobile (24-21, 56-59) failed to show any offensive threat Thursday. Both of the BayBears hits came off the bat of Dawel Lugo. The Mobile third baseman went 2-for-3 with a single and a solo home run on the night. Other than the homer from Lugo, Mobile failed to put a single runner in scoring position.
The BayBears bullpen couldn't stop the Biscuits bats either. Three relievers combined to allow six more runs on eighth hits over the final four innings of the game. Seven of the nine men in the batting order for Montgomery recorded at least two hits with only Jake Depew not reaching base with at least one hit. Depew settled for two walks. All told, four different Biscuit batters powered out at least one home run.

The BayBears and Biscuits continue their five game series with game two scheduled for 7:05 PM Friday night in Montgomery.
