
Birdsell Gets the Win in his Double-A Debut

BILOXI, MS- The Tennessee Smokies take a 3-1 series lead in Biloxi, winning tonight's ballgame by a final of 5-2. Tennessee starter Brandon Birdsell made his Double-A debut, and picked up the win tossing five complete innings, allowing two runs on seven hits and three strikeouts.
The Smokies scored all five of their runs tonight via the long ball. Pablo Aliendo and Casey Opitz hit two run home runs, while Cole Roederer hit a solo shot in the second inning to get the scoring started. The Smokies scored three runs in the second inning and two runs in the third inning to take the early advantage.
The bullpen tonight for the Smokies tossed four lockdown innings to preserve the win. Blake Whitney threw the final two shutout innings to pick up a six out save, which was his third consecutive save in the last three appearances.
The Smokies stay hot winning their eighth game in the month of August to improve to an overall record of 61-44. With the loss, the Shuckers have lost five out of their last six games and fall to 54-52 on the campaign. Game five is tomorrow night at 7:05 ET.
