Delmarva Shorebirds News Release
The Delmarva Shorebirds scored five runs in the fifth inning and defeated the Lake County Captains 9-3, completing a three-game sweep at Arthur W. Perdue Stadium Wednesday afternoon.
With one out in the fifth and the Captains holding onto a 3-2 lead, the next six hitters reached base for Delmarva-with five of them scoring. Danny Figueroa started the rally with a single and Bobby Andrews followed with a walk. Todd Davidson singled home Figueroa on a shot to left field to tie the game at three. Brandon Tripp reached on a force out, then consecutive doubles by Chris Vinyard and Billy Rowell brought home three runs total for a 6-3 lead. An error by third baseman Niuman Romero allowed Rowell to score to finish the five-run inning.
Pedro Beato was able to recover from a rocky second inning to pick up his second consecutive victory-his only two decisions of the season. He allowed three earned runs in the second, but allowed only four more hits in his six and two-thirds innings. Beato waked four and struck out five. Luis Lebron pitched two and a thirds innings of scoreless relief to finish the game.
Delmarva now extends their winning streak to a season-long six games, and are 5-0 on their current homestand. The Shorebirds start their final home series of the first half tomorrow against the Lakewood BlueClaws. An all-star pitching match-up is scheduled for tomorrow as Jeff Moore goes for Delmarva while Ben Pfinsgraff is on the mound for Lakewood, both representing the northern division in the South Atlantic League.
