Myrtle Beach Pelicans News Release
MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. - The Myrtle Beach Pelicans dropped their final game of the first half on Sunday night 3-2 to the Carolina Mudcats from TicketReturn.Com Field at Pelicans Ballpark.
With the Mudcats (34-36) leading 3-1 in the bottom of the sixth, the Pelicans (34-36) attempted to rally. Andruw Monasterio singled home Yeiler Peguero , who finished 3-for-3 with a double, an RBI and a run, to make it 3-2. Jhonny Pereda then smacked a fly ball into center field for an apparent game-tying sacrifice fly, but the runner left early from third and the Muddies turned the inning-ending double play with an appeal.
The Mudcats struck first in the third inning against Bryan Hudson (4-6). Dallas Carroll knocked home Ryan Aguilar on a fielder's choice to make it 1-0.
The Birds tied the game in the bottom half of the third inning when Peguero ripped an RBI double to score Connor Myers .
In the fourth inning, Carolina snared the lead right back as Cooper Hummel laced an RBI single to make it 2-1, and the Muddies extended their advantage in the fifth with a Weston Wilson RBI ground out.
Conor Harber (2-3) earned the win for the Muddies, going six innings while ceding two runs on five hits. Luke Barker saved his sixth game of the season by recording the final four outs.
With the conclusion of the first half, the All-Star break is upon the Carolina League. The All-Star Classic will be played on Tuesday in Zebulon, N.C. from Five County Stadium with a first pitch of 7:00 p.m. Pereda, shortstop Aramis Ademan and RHP Tyler Peyton will represent Myrtle Beach as All-Stars.
The Pelicans will begin the second half of play in Lynchburg for a four-game series against the Hillcats, starting at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday.
