The Marshals News Release
Cincinnati, OH - Cincinnati Marshals kick returner Billy Back earned Special Teams Player of the Week honors from the National Indoor Football League.
Back turned in the big play of the night for the Marshals in their 52-34 loss to the Dayton Bulldogs when he returned a kick 50-yards for the score.
A product of Edgewood High School and Wilmington College, Back finished the night with 136 return yards on five attempts (27.2 yards per return) including the touchdown run which tied the score at 21-21.
"It is a pretty big honor and it is pretty exciting I got it," Back said. "I would have rather had the win, though. It wouldn't have happened if I didn't have the blockers and the coach's scheme. Without that, I wouldn't get any honors. If they don't call the right scheme, the blockers don't block and I don't read the holes, then it's a bust."
Back also finished the night with three catches for 45 yards and hauled in a 32-yard scoring strike from Seth Ellis in the fourth quarter.
Back plans to celebrate the NIFL honor by taking the special teams members out for dinner.
On the season, Back is second in the NIFL in all-purpose yards with 157 per game and is fourth in return yards with 355 yards on 15 returns.
The Marshals are in Montana this weekend to play the Big Sky Thunder and return home on April 22 to face the River City Rage.
