Big Series for Cutters Starts Tuesday; Oil Can Pitches Thursday

August 22, 2005 - Canadian American League (Can-Am)
New Haven County Cutters News Release

When the New Haven County Cutters play host to the Brockton Rox this week (Tuesday-Thursday, 7:05 p.m. starts) it will be a meeting of the two top teams in the Can-Am League season's second half. Both teams lead their respective division by three and a half games entering play Monday.

The final game of the series is Red Sox/Yankees Rivalry Night at Yale Field. Coming off a memorable championship series victory over their New York rivals in 2004, Boston fans will have one more reason to be excited as it was announced on Monday that 45-year old former Red Sox pitcher Dennis (Oil Can) Boyd will start Thursday's game for the visitors.

One of the great Red Sox characters of the past few decades, Oil Can has garnered much media attention this season for his return to professional baseball. He has proven that he is still capable of being successful in the pro ranks, posting a 3-3 record with a 3.44 earned run average in 12 starts for Brockton.

In his time in the American League, Oil Can was 4-5 against the Yankees.

Tim Keinath, who does not have any previous ties to the Red Sox or Yankees, starts for the Cutters on Thursday.

Fans are encouraged to come prepared to support their favorite franchise. There will be contests on the field that pit both sets of fans against one another and many of the clubs' glory moments will be replayed over the sound system.

Rivalry Night falls on a Thirsty Thursday ($1 beer).

Tickets for the series can be purchased at the team's website, www.CuttersBaseball.com, over the phone at 203-777-5636 or by visiting Yale Field's box office.
