Winston-Salem Polar Twins News Release

Winston-Salem, NC – Kevin Swider had a goal and three assists, leading the Knoxville Ice Bears to a 7-4 crushing of the Winston-Salem Polar Twins Thursday night at LJVM Coliseum Annex. The loss was the fourth straight for the Polar Twins, who drop to 4-12 on the season. First-place Knoxville improves to 11-4 on the season.

Knoxville got on the board at 10:35 of the first period on a power play goal by David Bagley. Kevin Swider sent a cross-ice pass to a wide open Bagley who one-timed it into the open net for his sixth goal of the season.

Chester Gallant tied the game at 1-1 at the 16:52 mark of the first frame, slapping a screened shot past Knoxville goaltender Terry Dunbar for his fourth goal of the season.

Trevor Karasiewicz made it 2-1 Winston-Salem with a shorthanded goal at 4:42 of the second. Steve Lajoie connected with Karasiewicz, who beat his man into the zone and wristed a shot into the net for his third of the season.

Knoxville stormed back, scoring six goals in the period for a 7-2 score heading into the second intermission. K.J. Voorhees netted two in that span, with Mike Craigen, Kevin Swider, Marcus Forsberg, and Darren Cain scoring one each.

Winston-Salem closed the gap in the third, getting goals from Jason Rollins, his first of the season, and Lajoie, but it was too little too late as the Ice Bears held on for the 7-4 final.

The Polar Twins continue their three-in-three stretch tomorrow night when the Huntsville Havoc make their first appearance at LJVM Coliseum Annex. The Polar Twins close out the week on Saturday with a visit from the Columbus Cottonmouths. Both games begin at 7:30 p.m. EST. Fans that bring a new, unwrapped toy to donate to FOX8's Gifts for Kids program will receive $2 off the regular ticket price.
