Big prizes, up-to-date information now available to fans at AFL Fantasy Central
February 4, 2004 - Arena Football League (1987-2008) (AFL I) News Release
NEW YORK â With the Arena Football League's 2004 kickoff just two days away, the first-ever AFL fantasy football games feature significant content and prize opportunities for all fantasy football fans, including a total of $50,000 in cash prizes.
The AFL is currently offering two games -- a free Salary Cap Game and a premium AFL Full Fantasy Football game. A third game, free ArenaBowl Playoff Challenge, will be added for the postseason. Fans can register for AFL fantasy games at the AFL's Official Web site, www.arenafootball.com, or by logging on at www.AFLFantasy.com or www.sandboxplus.com.
New to the Salary Cap Game are weekly prizes worth $1,000 and a Grand Prize of $25,000. The free game allows fans to assume the fantasy role of general manager of their own AFL team and compete in up to 20-person groups.
Premium AFL Full Fantasy Football now includes a total of $8,000 in cash prizes and allows fans to draft a roster, make trades with league mates, and pick up waiver-wire players. This game is included in an unparalleled, all-in-one opportunity for fans to play more than 20 other fantasy sports games provided by Sandbox Plus for $4.95 per month. Special six-month and eight-month packages are also available.
Features of AFL Full Fantasy Football include head-to-head and fantasy point scoring, public or private leagues, easy drafting, easy trading, cash prizes, and integrated fantasy news and analysis.
The AFL has also developed a new section on its Web site â Fantasy Central â which previews top players at each position and details ranks and projections for players for the 2004 fantasy season. The new "Fantasy Insider" allows fantasy players to learn about key fantasy items, such as sleepers, game-by-game fantasy analysis and late-season pickups.
Another new addition to the fantasy Web site is "Parker's Picks." NBC studio analyst GLENN PARKER will pick his fantasy team each week and discuss it every Sunday on the AFL on NBC pregame show. Other celebrity athletes will also serve as guest columnists and writers for AFL Fantasy Central.
Fans will be able to follow their fantasy players and obtain statistical updates each weekend on NBC through fantasy line and game-score scrolls during each game broadcast. Fans will also be able obtain statistical updates each Monday in USA Today.
Other AFL fantasy program enhancements: AFL news, message boards, and email updates including game previews and player and team analysis. Tickets, merchandise and auctions will also be incorporated into the new AFL fantasy games.
Research indicates that more than 13 million people participate in fantasy football games. With the AFL's new games, fantasy football no longer ends in January.
