STOCKTON â Corey Slavik hit his first two home runs of the season and had four RBI, but the Oaks could not overcome a six-run deficit in an 8-5 loss to Stockton.
Slavik's first home run came in the second inning and was a solo shot that tied the game 1-1. Slavik hit a three run blast in the top of the eighth inning to pull Visalia within three at 7-4.
Stockton sent ten men to the plate and scored six times in the bottom of the third off Gerrit Simpson, who was named last week's California League Pitcher of the Week for his complete game two-hit shutout against San Jose last Thursday. Simpson's fourteen-inning scoreless streak came to an end in the first inning Wednesday as the league's leading hitter, G. J. Raymundo delivered a two-out RBI double off the right field wall.
On Tuesday, the Ports scored twelve times in the fourth inning en route to a 16-5 victory over the Oaks.
Visalia lost more ground on the Ports when Rashad Eldridge hit a one-out homer in the bottom of the eighth to make the lead 8-4.
Hector Tena scored on a bases loaded sacrifice fly to deep centerfield by Jayson Nix in the ninth inning, but Dan Phillips struck out with runners on the corners to end the game.
Avoiding a sweep: Visalia will play in Stockton for the final time in the first half on Thursday. LHP Jeff Francis (1-5, 7.24 ERA) will be on the hill for the Oaks against Stockton RHP Kiki Bengochea (2-1, 11.08 ERA). First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. The Radisson Pre Game Show Begins at 6:52 p.m.
Yikes: Visalia is 2-7 against Stockton this season.
