Greenville Triumph SC News Release

Greenville, SC - The Greenville Triumph Soccer Club announced the addition of Daniel Wu for the 2023 roster selection. The Georgetown University All-American defender will start his professional career in Greenville after four historic seasons as a Hoya.

Wu amassed two goals, three assists and 5,180 minutes over four seasons in the nation's capital. The center back played in 59 matches, starting all but one for the Hoyas. In his senior season, he was named a United Soccer Coaches Second Team All-American, First Team All-East Region, Big East Defensive Player of the Year, First Team All-Big East, Big East Preseason Defensive Player of the Year and Preseason All-Big East team. Wu was also invited to the 2022 Adidas MLS College Showcase in December and entered in the 2023 MLS SuperDraft.

Earlier in his collegiate career, Wu was named 2021 Second Team All-Big East selection and earned a spot on the Big East All-Tournament team and scored a goal in the College Cup Final against UVA to cap his freshman campaign with a National Championship.

The Cary, North Carolina native boasts a pedigree from the notable NC Triangle soccer hotbed, spending eight seasons with NCFC Youth program as a 4-year starter and 2-year captain. He was ranked 86th in the 2019 graduating class on TopDrawerSoccer.com and selected to travel to Madrid in 2016 with Generation Adidas.

"We are thrilled to have Daniel join our Triumph Family," said Head Coach John Harkes. "Daniel comes from a brilliant Georgetown Men's Soccer program where Brian Wiese is an exceptional coach. Daniel is an intelligent defender that reads the game well and can distribute the ball effectively. He has great leadership and discipline in his defending and is a team player."

Wu's addition will strengthen an award-winning backline featuring Greenville veterans Brandon Fricke, Evan Lee, and Tyler Polak. The Triumph will begin its regular season schedule on March 25th against the Richmond Kickers at Paladin Stadium.
