Big 3rd Period Gives Majors Three Straight Road Wins

WINDSOR, ON - It took a couple of periods for the Majors offence to start rolling this even in Windsor. However, once it did, they were able to take control of the game versus the Spitfires. Cory Vitarelli notched another two goals for St. Mike's, increasing his team-leading total to 19. With the 5-2 win, the Majors record improves to 12-9-1-1.

The Majors started the game on the right foot, with Justin Donati connecting at 11:29 of the opening frame, on the power-play, off of Ryan Wilson and Scott Lehman feeds. They also outshot the Spitfires 11-7 in the 1st period. However, Windsor reversed the trend in the middle stanza as the home squad's Brett Liscomb notched the only goal of the period at 6:35, also on the man-advantage, with the support coming from David Lomas and Cal O'Reilly. This time, Windsor had the upper hand in shots, with a 13-3 edge.

The Majors bounced back in the 3rd period, in a big way. Vitarelli and Jeff Larsh tickled the twine at 0:22 and 1:10, respectively, with the assists going to Wilson, Scott Lavigne and Tyler Donati. O'Reilly made it a 1-goal game when he connected on the power-play at 16:31, off of Mitch Maunu and Peter Aston passes. Yet, the Majors showed their resolve as Lavigne and Vitarelli knocked home insurance markers at 18:06 and 18:34 (empty-net). This time, the helpers were credited to T. Donati, Larsh and Derek Lewis (1st point with the Majors).

The Majors finished the night 1 for 5 on the power-play while the Spitfires were 2 for 6. Wayne Savage got his 2nd straight start for the Majors and took advantage, stopping 30 shots to get the win. Anthony Guadagnolo had 22 saves for Windsor. The game's three stars were Savage (1st), O'Reilly (2nd) and Vitarelli (3rd).

The Majors return home to host the Canadian Hockey League's top-ranked team, the Peterborough Petes, tomorrow afternoon (Sunday, November 20th) at 2:00 pm. The Petes won 7-1 in Owen Sound this evening. They experienced their last defeat on October 9th, a 5-4 overtime result courtesy of the Majors. Tomorrow's contest will be broadcast on Rogers television in Toronto, channel 10 or 63, and webcast at www.stmichaelsmajors.com.

The Majors will be hosting another free fan barbecue prior to the game against the Petes, which begins at 12:30 pm. They request that participating fans bring a non-perishable food item, which the team will donate to the Daily Bread Food Bank.
