Shreveport Mudbugs News Release
The Shreveport Mudbugs (38-10-6) used a four-goal first period to lead the way to their ninth straight victory over the Amarillo Bulls, 5-3 and another sweep Saturday night at George's Pond in Hirsch Coliseum.
The Bugs got off to another roaring start to the contest as Jake Mack tipped home his second goal of the year in front on the PP to give Shreveport the early 1-0 lead at 6:33 of the 1st period. Connor Gatto and Billy Feczko earned the helpers on the game's first goal. Shreveport then would capitalize on a tip in front from Matt Weber which was good for his 14th tally of the season to make it a 2-0 lead midway through the opening period. Davis Goukler picked up the primary assist with the hard slapper from the left point and Braiden Dorfman earned the secondary helper. The Bugs extended their lead at 11:42 when Jacob OnStott drilled home his fifth goal of the season in the slot off a brilliant feed from Dawson Sciarrino to make it a 3-0 edge for Shreveport. The Bugs would then put the icing on the cake for the opening period when Matt Vermaeten would get on a breakaway shorthanded and flip in his 12th goal of the season to make it a 4-0 advantage at 17:39. Gio Procopio would earn the only assist who was able to feed Vermaeten racing up the ice. Shreveport led in SOG, 11-8 after one.
Amarillo got on the board on a PP of their own when Harrison redirected in his 18th goal of the season in front to make it a 4-1 contest at 8:13 of the 2nd period. It was the only goal of the middle period as the Bulls made a push and led in SOG, 17-7.
The Bulls made it very interesting in the third period when Harrison Scott tallied two more PP goals at 5:42 and 13:29 respectively to make it a narrow 4-3 contest. That would be the closest the Bulls would get though as Adam Kolcon went into the slot and ripped home his third goal of the season at 14:04 to make it a 5-3 game and put the game away.
Shreveport wins their ninth straight against Amarillo as Cole Hudson earns his 20th win of the season making 32 saves in net.
The Bugs will conclude their regular season next weekend as they'll host their arch-rival in the Lone Star Brahmas for a two-game series at George's Pond in Hirsch Coliseum. Game one will be next Friday night with puck drop scheduled for 7:11.
