
Betsy McAdams honored by United Soccer Leagues

Charleston, SC. Former Charleston Battery Chief Operating Officer Betsy McAdams who passed away earlier this year after a courageous battle with brain cancer has been honored by the United Soccer Leagues. McAdams was posthumously honored as the recipient of the 2010 Archie Moylan Award in recognition of her tremendous courage and her long-standing service for the Charleston Battery; in addition one of the USL's annual employee awards was permanently renamed the âBetsy McAdams Key Grip Award'.
The Betsy McAdams Key Grip Award recognizes annually an excellent member of a club's staff from each of the USL divisions that is not an executive with the team. This year's recipients were, Carmen Vanessa Figueroa, Puerto Rico Islanders (USL1), Whitney Woods, Wilmington Hammerheads (USL2), Fabricio Codeceira, Fresno Fuego (PDL), and Win Puffer, Washington Freedom (W-League).
The Archie Moylan Award, was established in memory of Paul âArchie' Moylan the former Reading Rage coach and general manager who passed away in 2000 after a lengthy battle with cancer. The award recognizes a member of the USL family who has shown great courage or outstanding humanitarianism.
Betsy was an original employee of the Charleston Battery since it's inception in 1993; she went on to serve in a number of roles including Director of Operations and Director of Finance & Business Administration; she was named Chief Operating Officer in May 2008.
Prior to joining the Battery, Betsy was the Purchasing Agent at Blackbaud until 1996 and then the Executive Assistant to former Blackbaud CEO and Battery majority owner, Tony Bakker.
