Berlin Comes Back to Win 6-4 over Brewster

In the first of three meetings this weekend, the Bulldogs are 3 wins behind Berlin in the standings. Tonight would be the lone meeting in Brewster before the Bulldogs travel to Berlin. With a playoff spot on the line, Brewster would dominate the first half of the game before falling apart and losing 6-4.

Brewster would score the first goal of the game at the 4:05 mark as John Scully made it 1-0. The score would stand until 2:41 of the 2nd period before Mike Henrici tied it with his 1st of the year. Brewster would quickly respond with 2 goals from Janis Berzins and Alex Johnson to take a 3-1 lead. 23 seconds later however it was Matias Simontaival who would cut the lead back to one. Brewster would respond again with Nikolai Okhlobystin scoring at the 9:46 mark to make it 4-2. Brewster won the 1st half of the game but Berlin would win the 2nd. The River Drivers would benefit heavily with special teams, and on the power play, Pavel Kubina would make it 4-3 with 6:33 to go in the period, and then again on the power play, Jiri Pestuka would tie the game only 3 minutes later. Brewster would never respond in the 3rd period, and with 5:55 to go, Jiri Pestuka would score again to put Berlin ahead, and Jay Croop would put the game away with another goal with less than 2 minutes to go.

For Brewster, Alex Johnson had a goal and assist, John Scully, Janis Berzins and Nikolai Okhlobystin had a goal each, and Dustin Jesseau had 2 assists. Jeromy Semtner stopped 22 of 28 shots for the loss. For Berlin, Jiri Pestuka had 2 goals, Pavel Kubena and Matias Simontaival had a goal and assist each, Jay Croop and Mike Henrici had a goal each, Andre Niec had 3 assists and Curtis Warren had 2 assists. Ryan Donovan stopped 31 of 35 shots for the victory.

These two teams battle it out over the next two nights in Berlin, with a playoff spot still on the line. Attendance for tonight's game was over 300, final number still pending at time of writing.
