Danbury Titans News Release
The Danbury Titans headed west for four games this weekend taking on the Port Huron Prowlers and Dayton Demolition twice each.
Thursday night's tilt against Port Huron began with Danbury, Port Huron, and Danville all very close at the top of the standings. The two highest scoring teams in the Federal Hockey League would not disappoint.
Brett Liscomb struck first for Danbury in the first period where Danbury outshot Port Huron 22-10 and dominated the territory game. Prowlers goaltender Dan McWhinney kept his team in it and held the Titans to only one goal in the first frame.
The high powered offenses showed up in the second period as four goals were scored. After Port Huron tied it up on a goal from Brian Soskin, the Titans rattled off three straight goals in just under four minutes. Tyler Gjurich, Aaron Atwell, and Mike Driscoll got Danbury out to a large lead heading into the third period.
The third period saw Port Huron's offense come alive as they scored four goals in the frame to Danbury's one scored by Liscomb. Other chances were traded but goaltenders McWhinney and Mike Pearless held firm to force overtime. It was during the extra frame that Gjurich scored to give Danbury the victory.
The next night was almost a mirror image as regulation ended in a 5-5 tie. The Titans had the lead on multiple occasions but Port Huron would fight back and get a goal. Dean Yakura, Jonathan Juliano, John Scorcia, Dan Loughlin, and Gjurich would score for the Titans in regulation. However, a late power play for the Prowlers would carry over into overtime where they would cash in to get the win.
From there the Titans headed to Dayton for a two game set with the Demolition. It would be another night of extra play for the Titans as they were unable to finish off the Demolition in regulation. Yakura (2), Ryan Patsch, and Gjurich scored for the Titans. Despite many chances in overtime this game would head to a shootout. Gjurich would be the only player to tally for the Titans. Dayton scored twice to secure the victory.
The second game would be more in the Titans favor as Danbury was able to get a regulation victory by a score of 4-2. Dan Loughlin potted two goals to go along with tallies from Liscomb and Patsch. Despite an early Dayton goal in the third, Danbury was able to shut them down for the rest of the game.
The Titans now sit in second place in the FHL and head into the stretch run in prime position to solidify their spot in the playoff race. Danbury returns home for one game this weekend when they host the Brewster Bulldogs on Friday at 7:35 PM. For tickets and information visit www.danburytitans.com or call 844-DTHOCKEY.
