Columbus Wardogs News Release

Columbus, GA - Columbus rookie receiver Troy Bergeron set a Wardogs single game record by catching 13 passes for 212 yards and three touchdowns in Saturday's 46-45 win over the Macon Knights. His 212 receiving yards breaks the two-year old franchise mark held by Phil Taylor, who had 189 receiving yards against Augusta on May 4, 2002.

Bergeron's 13 receptions also tied him with teammate Adrian Cockfield for the most catches in one game. Cockfield caught 13 passes on June 28, 2003 against Rochester.

For the season, the former Shaw High school standout now has 33 catches for 516 yards and nine touchdowns.

The 20-year-old Bergeron is the youngest player EVER in arenafootball2. Born December 3, 1983, he is nine months younger than the next closest active player, Albany (NY) Conquest rookie kicker Vinny Cirrincione who was born on March 1, 1983.

PLAYOFF UPDATE: The Wardogs (5-6) can re-claim the sixth and final playoff spot in the American Conference if they beat Oklahoma City this weekend while Memphis (6-5) loses to Tennessee Valley. The Xplorers are 0-6 all-time against the Vipers. Columbus would win the tiebreaker with Memphis due to the record against common opponents.

PICK OFF MOVES: With an interception against Macon, Wardogs defensive specialist Terrell Sutton moved into a tie with Birmingham's Anthony Jordan for the league lead with eight picks. The Wardogs defense had a total of eight interceptions all last year. With 15 interceptions this year and five games to go, the Wardogs should easily break the single season mark of 17 picks from the 2001 season.
