
Benson Named to Team Canada for Hlinka Gretzky Cup

The Winnipeg ICE congratulate forward Zach Benson being named to Team Canada for the 2022 Hlinka Gretzky Cup.
The eight team international event is scheduled for July 31 to August 6th at Peavey Mart Centrium in Red Deer, Alberta.
Benson, from Chilliwack, British Columbia, is coming off a career year in the WHL with the ICE registering 25 goals and 38 assists for 63 points in 58 regular season games. He also had 23 points (9 goals and 14 assists) in 15 playoff games.
Benson previously represented Canada during the 2021-22 season in the Capital City Challenge November 26th to December 1st in Ottawa winning a Gold medal. In the Gold Medal game, he scored the tying goal for Team Black with 0.4 seconds remaining in regulation time to force overtime. They beat Team Red 5-4. Benson led all players in the event with seven goals and 12 points.
The ICE selected Benson in the 1st round, 14th overall in the 2020 WHL Prospects Draft.
