San Angelo - The San Angelo Bandits have signed veteran Defensive Back Austin Benson, head coach Meadow Lemon stated late Monday afternoon.
"Austin is a player that is always willing to work, willing to add to his talent and experience. I love his passion; I love his approach to the game. Austin is a player that can do it all, he can come downhill and fill the gaps as a linebacker; he can play the safety position and can run the ball, if needed." said Lemon
Austin spent last season with the Iowa Barnstormers where he played for former Bandit coach Joe Brannon.
Austin Benson (6'2,230, Angelo State) completed the 2015 season as one of the Barnstormers most explosive players in the league. Benson played in 12 games where he racked up 64 solo tackles and 33 assisted tackles giving Benson a total of 97 tackles on the season. Benson also tacked on 4 interceptions 15 pass breakups, 3 forced fumbles taking one fumble recovery for a 45 yard touchdown. Benson's playmaking efforts earned him IFL week eleven, Defensive Player of the Week honors.

Bandits' team owner Randy Sanders, was also present at today's signing. Sanders said that he wanted to be one of the first to personally welcome Benson back to the Bandit organization. Sanders, who is convinced that the signing of Benson, is one in the right direction for the franchise and is an appropriate way to kickoff the 2016 Glory Bound Season Campaign. "Austin is one of those special young-men that I truly appreciate. His passion and zeal for the game and our fans is infectious, something I know that will make him an inspiring leader both on and off the field. " said Sanders.
Benson, will be on hand Saturday December 19, 2016 as the Bandits will host an Open Tryout at San Angelo Stadium, 1919 Knickerbocker, San Angelo Texas from 9:00AM to 3:00PM. For more information, Open Tryouts go to; www.sabandits.com.
