Allen Americans News Release
ALLEN, Texas - Allen Americans defenseman Jordie Benn was invited to attend the development camp of the club's NHL affiliate, the Dallas Stars.
The Stars announced the full roster of attendees Tuesday for the weeklong camp. Over 30 of Dallas's top prospects will participate in on- and off-ice workouts beginning July 1 at the Dr Pepper Arena in Frisco. All on-ice practice sessions are open to the public. The camp will conclude with a skills event at 9:00 a.m. on Wednesday, July 7.
The camp is not Benn's first experience in the higher echelons of the NHL. "I went to a prospects camp in Vancouver [in 2007] that went really well and got invited to rookie camp. I'm just excited and looking forward to a good week in Dallas. I hope I can open some eyes and show that I can play at a high level," the blueliner said Wednesday.
Benn scored 11 points in the Americans' 20-game run for the Ray Miron Presidents' Cup. The 22-year-old was responsible for securing Allen's first playoff berth in franchise history after he scored an overtime goal Feb. 23 against Rio Grande Valley.
Benn will join the Stars' last two first round picks, goaltender Jack Campbell (11th overall at 2010 NHL Entry Draft) and forward Scott Glennie (8th overall at 2009 NHL Entry Draft), at the camp.
