Bench ignites Lowgators past Patriots

CHARLESTON, S.C. (February 14) Chuck Eidson led seven players in double digits with 23 points and six steals to help Charleston to a 115-97 victory over the Fayetteville Patriots at the North Charleston Coliseum on Saturday night. The contest extended the Lowgators home win streak to six games.

Trailing by one with six minutes remaining in the first half, Charleston outscored Fayetteville 22-10 the rest of the period to lead 60-49 at halftime and never looked back. The Patriots (13-14) would get no closer than six and the Lowgators (18-10) led by as many as 22 early in the fourth quarter.

"I thought we really distributed the ball well tonight. Everybody contributed and we played better defense against a good team," coach Doug Marty said.

The Lowgators bench provided a total of 61 points with four reserves scoring in double digits. Along with Eidson's team high, Damone Brown added 14 points, Carl English provided 13 and Hiram Fuller chipped in with 11 and 6 blocks.

Fayetteville coach Jeff Capel said, "Charleston really played well tonight. They are tough to beat when they get their running game going. We played with a lot of effort but we just didn't have it tonight."

Junie Sanders led all scorers with 25 points off the bench for Fayetteville and Britton Johnsen added 18.

Lowgators leading scorer Tierre Brown dished out an NBDL season-high 16 assists.

Fayetteville will travel to Columbus on Monday at 4 p.m. Charleston hosts Roanoke next Thursday at 7 p.m.
