Ben Ramin Earns Second MASL Team of the Week Honor, Coughlin and Ubiparipovic Honorable Mentions
February 6, 2018 - Major Arena Soccer League (MASL)
Syracuse Silver Knights News Release
Ben Ramin received his second MASL Team of the Week Honor this season for his performances in a win against Cedar Rapids and a loss against Baltimore. Andrew Coughlin and Slavisa Ubiparipovic received honorable mentions for their efforts over the weekend as well.
Ramin scored two goals against Cedar Rapids, which led all Syracuse scorers. The game against the Rampage marked Ramin's second multi-goal game this season. Against Baltimore, Ramin did not record a point, but made his presence felt on the defensive end. The Baldwinsville native blocked seven shots against the Blast, a season high for the Silver Knights.
Ramin has vastly improved from his rookie campaign in the MASL. Now in his second season, the defender has eight goals and four assists on the season. Ramin's eight goals ranks him fifth on the team in that category. His 12 blocks on the season ranks him fourth on the Silver Knights.
Coughlin performed well in front of net for Syracuse last weekend. Against Cedar Rapids, Coughlin only allowed four goals, which is tied for his season low. Despite allowing eight goals against Baltimore, Coughlin recorded 14 saves against the Blast, which is his fifth highest mark this season. Coughlin broke the 200-save mark on the season with his performance against Baltimore. The Baldwinsville native now has 209 saves on the season, which is second in the MASL.
While Ubiparipovic was held quietly against the Rampage, he made his presence felt against the Blast. The Bosnian led all players with four points - two goals and two assists - in Syracuse's overtime loss to Baltimore. Ubiparpovic scored the goal that initially put Syracuse ahead in the fourth quarter before Baltimore came back to tie the game.
Ubiparipovic is also closing in on the 200-point milestone with the Silver Knights. The Bosnian needs only one more point to reach the 200-point mark for his career in a Silver Knights uniform. Kenardo Forbes isn't far behind Ubiparipovic in the race for 200 points. The Jamaican is only eight points away.
Syracuse returns to action on Sunday, February 11th, as the Harrisburg Heat visit the Oncenter War Memorial Arena for the second time this season. Kickoff is set for 4:05 p.m. For tickets and more information, call 315-303-7261 or log on to syracusesilverknights.com.
