Bells Fall to Kitsap

July 9, 2016 - West Coast League (WCL)
Bellingham Bells News Release

The Bells fell to the Kitsap BlueJackets Friday night, losing 11-3. Kitsap got the scoring started in the 4th. Bryce Steckler led things off with a triple down the right field line and Joey Galeno drove him in with a sac fly to center two batters later, and the BlueJackets had the early lead at 1-0. Marten Pauwels restarted things with a single to right and Tony Ortiz drove him home with a double over the left fielder's head. Chris Caffrey then followed with another single to drive in Ortiz and the top of the 4th would end with score at 3-0 Kitsap.

Kitsap then struck for 6 runs in the 5th. They accrued 7 singles and 6 runs in the inning and a lot of them were simply soft hit balls that found holes. The bad luck for the Bells resulted in the score being 9-0 heading to the bottom of the fifth.

But the Bells would strike back for 3 runs of their own in the bottom of the 5th. Things started with an error from the shortstop to put Gunnar Schubert on first base, and a walk to Austin Shenton gave the Bells runners on 1st and 2nd. Matt Ruff then lined a double over the head of the right fielder to score Schubert and give the Bells runners on 2nd and 3rd. A passed ball allowed Shenton to score and moved Ruff to third, and Andru Cardenas grounded one to second for a RBI groundout. The game would then head to the 6th with the score 9-3 Kitsap.

Kitsap would add 2 more in the ninth inning to make the final score 11-3.

Matt Ruff hit a double and had a RBI and a run scored for the Bells.

The Bells take the field again tomorrow Saturday July 9th for their final game of the three game series against the Kitsap BlueJackets at 7:05. Pre-game coverage starts at 6:35 on 930 AM KBAI with Tom Prizeman. To purchase tickets visit http://bellinghambells.com/home/ or call (367) 527-1035.
