Bells Drop Game Two to HarbourCats

A three run fourth inning would help lead the Victoria HarbourCats to a 4-2 win over the Bellingham Bells on Wednesday night.

HarbourCat starting pitcher Bryan Conant would keep the Bells hitters in check all night long, tossing seven and two thirds innings while allowing two runs on six hits.

Bells manager Gary Hatch credited the California State University Fullerton left hander for keeping the Bellingham bats silent for most of the night, "We didn't square up many balls tonight," Hatch said. "He (Conant) mixed his pitches well, kept the ball down and pitched a whale of a game tonight."

The Bells only two runs would come in the eighth inning after Alex Calbick connected on a two out double. Michael Annunziata would follow that up with a blooper that HarbourCat center fielder Jordan Ellis would lose in the lights, scoring Calbick to make the score 4-1 Victoria. Eric Angerer would keep the momentum going for the Bells with a double to left field, scoring Annunziata.

The 4-2 score would hold with Victoria reliever Ty Provencher retiring Mike Connolly on a groundout to second to end the eighth. Provencher would then work a scoreless ninth inning.

Victoria would only need one hit to score their three runs in the fourth inning. The HarbourCats would use that hit along with two walks, a steal of second base, a hit batter, an error, and a sacrifice fly to tally their runs home.

Along with the three run fourth inning, Victoria would tack on another run in the seventh inning after a Chris Lewis double and an Ellis hit to bring him home.

The two teams will meet again on Thursday night at Joe Martin Field in the rubber match of the three game series. Game time is 7:05 and all the action can be heard on bellinghambells.com with Mike Weisman on the call.
