Richmond RiverDogs News Release
Richmond, VA â The Richmond RiverDogs of the United Hockey League have signed LW Francis Belanger to a contract for the 2004/05 season. Belanger joined the âDogs late last season and racked up 24 points in 17 games.
Belanger spent most of last season playing in the QSMHL with Granby. He came to the âDogs in March and quickly became one of the top players in the UHL. "I truly believe Frankie is one of the best players in our league," said Richmond General Manager Jeff Croop. "Size, toughness, hands, he has the whole package," Croop added.
Belanger has spent the majority of his seven year pro career playing in the AHL. He also has 10 games of NHL experience with Montreal. He helped lead Hull to the 1997 Memorial Cup. He was a double figure goal scorer three times in the AHL. "I can't wait to get back in a RiverDogs uniform and help carry our team to a higher level," Belanger said.
The âDogs now have nine players under contract for 2004-'05: Brian Goudie, Paul Johnson, J.F. Picard, J.J. Wrobel, Luch Nasato, Jami Yoder, David Brosseau, Jordan Roach, and Belanger.
The RiverDogs open defense of their regular season Eastern Division championship on Friday, October 15 vs. Port Huron at 7:35.
