New Britain Bees News Release
(New Britain, CT.) In their return home to New Britain Stadium, the New Britain Bees (13-15) tightroped to a 1-0 win in the first game of the three-game series against the York Revolution (16-13).
PITCHERS OF RECORD
W: Brian Dupra (3-0) | L: James Simmons (3-1) | SV: Craig Stem (6)
Up 1-0 in the ninth, closer Craig Stem ran into trouble. With one on and one out, York centerfielder James L. Simmons lifted a high fly fall to right field that carried on right fielder Anthony Hewitt, putting runners on second and third with one out. Stem, however, did not break, coming back to strike out Josh Wilson and getting Michael Rockett to pop out to right field to send the 3,917 Bees faithful home happy.
Both teams' starting pitchers made it difficult for opposing offenses to get a rhythm going. Bees' starter Brian Dupra tossed a season-high six innings, allowing six hits and striking out three, lowering his season ERA to 1.40 in the process.
Revolution starter James Simmons was nearly as good, throwing seven innings, giving up just four hits and also striking out three. Simmons gave up the lone run of the game when left fielder Jonathan Roof took Simmons out to left for his second home run of the season in the sixth inning.
The Bees and Revolution continue their three-game series at New Britain Stadium tomorrow night at 6:35PM, with Cole Johnson getting the start for the Bees and Tony Pena going for the Revolution. Tomorrow the Bees will also honor those who have served in our armed forces during Military Appreciation Night.
