New Britain Bees News Release
(New Britain, CT.) Behind a dominant pitching performance from Brian Dupra and two home runs from Jon Jones, the New Britain Bees beat the Lancaster Barnstormers to take the finale of the three-game series 9-1, winning their second straight series.
PITCHERS OF RECORD
W: Brian Dupra (4-0) | L: J.D. Martin (1-2)
Entering the game with a 1.40 ERA, the right-handed Dupra tossed eight great innings, allowing just one run on five hits and walking just one while striking out nine. Dupra's eight innings of work and nine strikeouts are both season highs for a New Britain starting pitcher this season. The University of Notre Dame product also lowered his ERA to 1.34, good for third best in the Atlantic League.
For the second straight game, the Bees' offense broke out for nine runs, but didn't need a dramatic comeback to reach that total today. With a 1-0 lead, the Bees struck for four runs in their half of the third inning off Barnstormers starter J.D. Martin. On three consecutive pitches, Craig Maddox (one RBI), Jonathan Roof (two RBIs), and Kevin Rivers (one RBI) brought home all the runs in the inning, highlighted by Roof's two-run double to left.
New Britain would tack on four more runs against Lancaster's pitching staff, all of which came off the bat of centerfielder Jon Jones. The speedy outfielder lifted a 2-1 pitch with two runners on and no outs in the fifth over the wall in left for his first long ball of the season, putting the Bees up 8-1. Jones would not have to wait long to hit his second home run of the season as he unloaded on a Mark Lamm delivery in the seventh for his second of the game, this one a solo shot.
The Bees hit the road tomorrow to start a three-game series with the Long Island Ducks, which will be the team's first trip to Bethpage Park. Cole Johnson will get the start in the series opener, which is scheduled to begin at 6:35PM.
