Bees Take Series against Kane County After 2-1 Win

Burlington, IA. - The rain decided to stay away from Community Field before last night's series finale between the Burlington Bees (14-27,44-66) and the Kane County Cougars (20-23,55-57), where fans got to see the Bees take the game 2-1. Michael Santos (3-1) won his third game of the season after going five innings, allowing just one run on four hits, and throwing three strikeouts. Cole Bartlett (3-2) suffered his second loss despite pitching a solid seven innings, allowing just two runs on eight hits, and throwing two strikeouts.

Cougars take lead on early run

The Cougars didn't have the start they had hoped for, after manager Blake Lalli was ejected arguing a call at first, where Tra Holmes was called out at first, when Lalli argued he should have been safe. Holmes remained out at first, but Yoel Yanqui made up for it after hitting a one out single. After Yanqui advanced to third on a ground out form Jancarlos Cintron, Tim Susnara blooper a single to left, scoring Yanqui and giving Kane County a 1-0 lead.

Bees take lead on pair of doubles

The Bees quickly responded to Kane County's first inning run and ended up taking the lead after the first. Leonardo Rivas got things started with a one out double to left for his 15th of the season, and Orlando Martinez advanced him to third on a single to left. Kevin Williams Jr then gave the Bees the lead after sending a hit to right, scoring Martinez and Rivas to give the Bees a 2-1 lead. Williams tried making it to third, but Ryan Dobson threw over to third in time to allow Ramos to apply the tag.

Del Rosario gets Bees out of jam

The Bees still held their lead heading into the top of the seventh, but Kane County was in good position to tie the game, after Anfernee Benitez walked Ramos, and hit Dobson with a pitch to give the Cougars runners on first and second with one out. Eduardo Del Rosario took over for Benitez after he hit Dobson and ended up striking out Tra Holmes and making Yanqui to fly out, getting the Bees out of the seventh with the lead intact. Del Rosario would also pitch the eighth and ninth innings, allowing just one walk, and throwing a total of five strikeouts in his two and two thirds innings, earning him his second save and giving Burlington a 2-1 win.

Big series for Millard

This series was the first series Bees fan got to see Tim Millard in action, and he gave them quite a show in the three games. Millard went 1-3 in the series finale and finished the series 8-12 with a homerun, two RBI's, and also had a 5-5 game in Burlington's 16-4 win on Sunday. Along with Millard, Martinez and Rivas had a solid series as well. Martinez extended his hitting streak to eight games after his 2-4 performance at the plate on Monday and finished the series 6-13 and drove in four runs. Rivas also went 6-13 at the plate and drove in a run in Saturday and Sunday's game. All three players will look to keep up the hot hitting and will hopefully get some of their teammates to join in as well.

Looking Ahead

The Bees will enjoy an off day tomorrow, before hitting the road again to travel back to Appleton to take on the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers. The Bees have not announced an expected starter for Wednesday's 7:05 game, but Wisconsin is expected to start Dylan file, who is 6-9 with a 4.34 ERA. File will be looking for revenge against the Bees, after Burlington handed him a loss for the three runs he allowed in his last start. File has been on a major losing streak as of late, losing six of his past seven games.
