New Britain Bees News Release

(New Britain, CT) - The New Britain Bees (11-10, 44-40) defeated the Atlantic League's Road Warriors (3-18, 20-64) 10-9 in walk-off fashion at New Britain Stadium on Wednesday evening to take the rubber game of a three game series in the Hardware City.

New Britain starting pitcher Kyle Simon (4-4) tallied a no-decision after giving up eight runs on nine hits (two home runs) in four and two-thirds innings pitched, walking four while striking out two and hitting pair of batters. Road Warriors starting pitcher Andres Caceres also did not factor in the game's final outcome, surrendering four runs on seven hits across four and two thirds innings on the mound, walking and strike out five while tossing a wild pitch.

Trailing 9-4 in the bottom half of the fifth inning, the Bees got right back in the ballgame with one big swing of the bat as Brock Stassi blasted a three-run home run to right field to cut the deficit to 9-7, his fifth roundtripper of the campaign and third big fly in the least five contests for the left-hander. New Britain got to within 9-8 just one inning later by way of a run-scoring groundout off the bat of Vince Conde that allowed Jamar Walton to cross the plate after he doubled earlier in the frame with one man down. The score remained 9-8 in favor of the Road Warriors in the bottom of the ninth as they sent closer Andrew Johnston to the mound looking for the series victory. With one out, pinch-hitter Darren Ford doubled into the left field corner to put the tying-run in scoring position. Ford advanced to third base on an error committed by shortstop Gustavo Pierre off a ground ball hit by Jonathan Galvez. With runners at the corners, Galvez proceeded to steal second base, which was followed by Stassi being intentionally walked by Johnston to load the bases. Behind in the count two strikes, a patient Deibinson Romero drew an RBI free pass which scored Ford to tie the game up at nine. With the running-run ninety-feet away, Jason Rogers sent the fans home with big smiles on their faces as he laced a walk- off RBI single that scored Galvez to give the boys from the Hardware City their most dramatic win of the season closing out the contest with the final eight runs of the night as New Britain tallied their 21st come-from behind win and sixth when trailing by three runs or more, along with their fifth walk-off win of the season while matching their biggest comeback of 2018 in the process, making a winner out of Brandon Cunniff (1-0) for the first time in a Bees uniform while handing Johnston the blown save and the loss (2-3). Rogers led the way for New Britain with a three-hit performance. Photo provided courtesy of the New Britain Bees.
