New Britain Bees News Release
Despite another late rally from the offense, the New Britain Bees dropped a close one in the series finale of the opening four-game series of the season to the York Revolution by a score of 3-2.
Making his first start in his home state, Bees starter Josh Zeid looked dominant during the first two innings, with four of the first six outs coming via the strikeout. Zeid struggled with his command in the third and was lifted with two outs after throwing 72 pitches. A trio of pitchers making their Bees debut - Brian Dupra, Anthony Marzi, and Brandon Fry - tossed the final six and one-third innings, allowing two runs (one earned) and striking out four.
Offensively, the Bees managed little against Revolution starter James Simmons (not to be confused with James L. Simmons, the Revolution center fielder). The right-hander tossed six innings of scoreless ball, striking out six and allowing just three singles. The Bees did tighten the game in the late innings thanks to Anthony Hewitt's solo home run in the 7th inning - the first long ball in Bees' history- and Craig Maddox' RBI single in the bottom half of the eighth.
The Bees put the tying run on third in the person of third baseman Jovan Rosa with two outs in the bottom of the 9th, but York closer Mike DeMark got shortstop Brandon Chaves to fly out to center to end the game.
The Bees open a three-game series at home against the Long Island Ducks with RHP Kyle Simon getting the nod for New Britain. Tomorrow is also the first $20K Match Game Monday, where fans will get the chance to win $20,000 if the last six digits of their driver's license with the VIN of a designated car.
Bees Buzz: Second baseman Steve Carrillo went 2-3 with a run scored...Bees catcher James Skelton threw out his third runner trying to steal this season in the 4th inning...Pitcher Brian Dupra tossed 4.1 strong innings out of the bullpen, striking out three and allowing one run.
