Bees Ninth Inning Comeback Is Negated By Mother Nature

(York, PA) - The York Revolution (29-34) defeated the New Britain Bees (32-29) 4-1 at PEOPLEsBank Park on Saturday evening in a rain-shortened eight innings of play and have now taken the first two games of a three-game weekend series. New Britain scored four runs in the top half of the ninth inning to take a 5-4 lead at the time, but with two men down the umpires informed the grounds crew that the tarp needed to come out onto the infield and there was no more baseball played in the Keystone State on this night. As per the rules of the Atlantic League of Professional Baseball, the contest needs to go back to the last full inning of play completed, and by doing so the rally by the Bees in the ninth frame was erased as the Revolution were able to come away with the victory, a carbon copy of what happened between these two ballclubs back at New Britain Stadium on May 30th when the Revolution scored five runs in the top half of the seventh inning to take what they thought was a 5-3 lead at the time, but when the rains hit the Hardware City and the teams could not continue play the matchup reverted back to the sixth inning and the end result was a 3-0 triumph for the Bees.
New Britain starting pitcher Sammy Gervacio (2-4) was handed the defeat after giving up two runs (one earned run) on five hits in four and one-third innings pitched, walking one while striking out three and hitting a batter. York starting pitcher Corey Walter (2-3) was victorious after tossing five scoreless innings on three hits allowed, walking five and striking out one. Josh Judy finished the game off in the top of the eighth for his sixth save of the season.
Down 3-0 in the top of the sixth, New Britain got on the board for the first and only time courtesy of a Jonathan Galvez run-scoring double to the opposite-field in right that plated Jason Rogers after the Bees designated hitter began the rally with a clean single to center. The two-base hit by the two-time Liberty Division All-Star in Galvez was his 15th tallied in 2019, second most on the team only trailing Alejandro De Aza who is second in the Atlantic League with 21. Galvez now ranks second in the league in batting average at a .325 clip, only behind his teammate in De Aza who is leading the way with a .341 batting average. The numbers do not stop there for Galvez, as he is ranked second in the ALPB in Slugging Percentage (.578) and On-Base Plus Slugging Percentage (.933) and is tied for third in Extra-Base Hits with 28. The visitors could not draw any closer to the opposition on this rain soaked Saturday, going 1-12 with runners in scoring position while leaving ten runners on base. Darren Ford and Galvez led the way with a pair of hits each.
The Bees return to New Britain Stadium on Monday, July 1st when they host the Liberty Division rival Somerset Patriots in the opener of a five-game series and eight-game homestand to close out the First Half of the 2019 Regular Season schedule. First pitch is slated for 6:35 P.M.
