New Britain Bees News Release
New Britain, Conn.- The New Britain Bees will host the first Sensory Friendly night at New Britain Stadium when the Bees take on the Somerset Patriots at 6:35 PM. This marks the first time that the Bees will present a game specifically catered to those with sensory processing issues.
In conjunction with students and faculty from Franklin Academy, in East Haddam, Connecticut, the Bees sought input from local and national organizations that serve those with sensory processing issues in order to create a unique ballpark experience. Sensory Friendly Night will be a family-friendly game environment designed and intended for those who are on the autism spectrum or who have other sensory issues. For this game, the ballpark environment will be altered, providing a safe, friendly, comfortable and judgment-free zone that is welcoming for all. This game is recommended for those families and caregivers who are familiar with and accepting of behaviors exhibited by some individuals with autism - and would like to bring a loved one to the ballpark.
As part of Sensory Friendly Night, the Bees will alter their normal game presentation to create a sensory friendly environment throughout the game. The scoreboard colors will be changed to a warm, low impact color, and minimal, low level music will be played during the game. Prior to the game, the National Anthem will be performed by former "The Voice" contestant Laura Udice at a special pitch to accommodate for those with sensory processing issues. Sting, the Bees' mascot, will not be at the game. A quiet room, located within the Bees front office, will also be available for any fan who may need a quiet place in case of sensory overload.
