
Bees Fall to Skeeters 10-7 in Series Opener

(Sugar Land, TX.) - Despite staking themselves to a five-run lead, the New Britain Bees could not hold on to it, dropping the series opener on the road to the Sugar Land Skeeters 10-7.

Tied at two as the top of the sixth began, the Bees scored five two out runs off Skeeters' starter Parker Frazier. After back-to-back run scoring singles by Jon Jones and Anthony Hewitt brought three runs in, catcher James Skelton capped off the inning with a two-run home run off reliever Andrew Johnston to put the Bees up 7-2.
The Skeeters, however, did not go away quietly in front of 4,170 at Constellation Field, coming right back to score four runs in the bottom half of the sixth. Ricky Hague homered off Bees' starter Josh Outman to lead off the inning, one of two homers Outman would give up in his 5.2 innings of work. Three more runners would cross the plate in the inning, two thanks to Patrick Palmeiro's two-run single.
Sugar Land would take the lead for good in the seventh inning off relievers Jarret Leverett and Craig Stem. Delwyn Young's RBI single tied the game at seven, and Jeremy Barfield's two-run triple put Sugar Land up by two. The Skeeters would tack on one more run in the eighth, and despite a Jovan Rosa double to leadoff the ninth, the Bees could not string together anymore hits to send the game into extras.
The Bees and Skeeters continue their series tomorrow night at 8:05 PM as the Bees try to even up there series. Brian Dupra will head to the mound for New Britain, while left-hander Roy Merritt will go for Sugar Land.
