Somerset Patriots News Release
New Britain, Connecticut - The Somerset Patriots (23-15) twice rallied against the New Britain Bees (16-24) Saturday night but ultimately fell short in a 5-4 loss at New Britain Stadium.
The Bees took an early 1-0 lead in the third inning with an unearned run. Reid Brignac ripped an RBI double to right-center field after an Alfredo Rodriguez throwing error continued the inning. New Britain increased their lead to 2-0 in the fourth on a Jamar Walton RBI fielder's choice.
Somerset tied up the game in the next half inning on a two-out, two-run single from Adam Weisenburger.
New Britain regained a 4-2 lead in the bottom of the sixth inning. A throwing error from Weisenburger led to the first run before an RBI single from James Skelton increased the lead to two runs.
The Patriots again responded immediately in the top of the seventh inning. Weisenburger was hit by a pitch and Julio Borbon drew a walk - both with two outs and the bases loaded - to tie the ballgame at 4-4.
The Bees won the ballgame in the bottom of the ninth inning on a walk-off RBI single from Jonathan Galvez.
Evan Scribner (1-0) earned the win with a scoreless ninth inning. Dustin Antolin (1-3) allowed one run on two hits to take the loss. Neither starting pitcher factored into the decision.
The Patriots and the Bees conclude their series Sunday afternoon. Somerset righty Cory Riordan (3-1, 3.32 ERA) takes the mound against New Britain right-handed pitcher Mark Hamburger (3-3, 4.27 ERA). First pitch at New Britain Stadium is scheduled for 1:35 p.m.
The 2018 Somerset Patriots season presented by Ford continues on the road until Tuesday, June 12th when the Patriots return to TD Bank Ballpark to take on the York Revolution at 7:05 pm. For tickets, visit www.somersetpatriots.com.
