New Britain Bees News Release

(Central Islip NY) - The New Britain Bees (5-7, 40-41) swept a day/night doubleheader from the Long Island Ducks (5-7, 48-34) at Bethpage Ballpark on Thursday, winning game one 3-1 in seven innings of play while taking the nightcap in come-from behind fashion 9-8 in the regularly scheduled nine inning contest.

In game one, New Britain starting pitcher David Roseboom registered a no-decision despite firing four scoreless innings on just two hits allowed in his first game start of 2019, walking and striking out one. Long Island starting pitcher Vin Mazzaro also did not factor in the game's final outcome, allowing just one run on three hits (one home run) across five innings on the mound, walking one while striking out four. Jim Fuller finished things off by recording his team-best tenth save of the campaign.

With the scored all knotted at one in the top of the seventh, the Bees plated a pair of runs to give the game its final score of 3-1, courtesy of a go-ahead safety squeeze produced by Rando Moreno that allowed Jonathan Galvez to cross the plate with the lead run after he singled with one away, and a run-scoring single off the bat of Tyler Clark that enabled Jared James to cross the plate after he followed Galvez with a base hit of his own. The beneficiary of the runs was Jose Rosario (3-1) who was the victor out of the visiting bullpen, while handing Rob Rogers (1-1) the loss in relief for the Flock. James led the way with a pair of hits en route to the triumph.

In game two, New Britain starting pitcher Devin Burke tallied a no-decision in the matchup, giving up seven runs on 12 hits (two home runs) in five innings on the bump, walking one, striking out five, and tossing a wild pitch. Long Island starting pitcher Pedro Beato collected a no-decision as well, surrendering three runs on six hits (one home run) in six innings of work, walking one and striking out five. Michael Johnson retired the side in order in the bottom of the ninth for his first save in a Hardware City uniform.

Trailing 7-3 in the top of the eighth, New Britain scored six runs to take their first lead of the night 9-7, with the two big hits coming from Darren Ford and Zach Collier as Ford gave the visitors an 8-7 advantage with a two-out, two-run single to the opposite field in right versus losing pitcher Michael Tonkin (3-2), followed by a big hit from Zach Collier who plated Ford with a double as the Bees executed their biggest comeback of the year, making a winner out of Chris Reed (1-0). Jason Rogers had three hits in the improbable victory.

The Bees return to New Britain Stadium on Tuesday, July 30th when they welcome the 2019 First Half Liberty Division Champion Long Island Ducks to the Hardware City for a three-game midweek series while also kicking off a six-game homestand.
