Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees News Release
HIDALGO, TEXAS --- The Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees of the Central Hockey League (CHL) today announced that Rich Bocchini, who has served as the team's play-by-play voice and communications director since 2005, has accepted a position with the Houston Aeros of the American Hockey League.
Details regarding Bocchini's successor, who has already been selected, will be made available tomorrow.
Bocchini, 34, will serve as the Director of Public and Community Relations for the Aeros, who are owned by the NHL's Minnesota Wild. His role with the Aeros will encompass many of the same duties he managed with the Killer Bees.
The Pawtucket, RI, native, spent five seasons calling the action for the Killer Bees on both radio and TV and did not miss a game over a span of 338 regular season and playoff games. He also served as the team's primary media contact and managed all press releases, game notes and presentation of killerbeehockey.com.
Named the CHL's Communications Executive of the Year for his efforts during the 2008-09 season, Bocchini was also a three-time finalist for the award. His play-by-play work resulted in three selections to broadcast the CHL All Star Game and two finalist nods for the CHL Broadcaster of the Year Award.
"This is an excellent opportunity for Rich and we are happy to see him climb the ladder to the American Hockey League," Killer Bees General Manager Dan Belisle said. "We're proud to see that his hard work and dedication with the Killer Bees has been recognized and rewarded."
The Killer Bees begin their eighth season of play at State Farm Arena in Hidalgo on October 15, 2010. Season tickets and corporate partnership opportunities are available now; call 956-843-7825 to find out more.
