New Britain Bees News Release

(New Britain, CT) - The New Britain Bees (11-19) defeated the Atlantic League's Road Warriors (8-22) 7-4 at New Britain Stadium on Wednesday evening to even up the three-game midweek series at a victory apiece.

New Britain starting pitcher Mark Hamburger (2-3) picked up the victory after allowing just two runs on seven hits (one home run) in six innings on the mound, walking two and striking out three. Road Warriors starting pitcher Felix Baez (1-4) suffered the loss, surrendering three runs on seven hits (one home run) across five innings pitched, walking one and striking out three. Tyler Higgins fired a scoreless inning of relief in the top of the ninth for his team-leading third save of the season.

Leading 3-2 in the bottom half of the seventh inning, New Britain batted around against Road Warriors relievers Christian Flecha-Astacio and William Gabay, plating three runs to take a commanding 6-2 advantage. Darren Ford led off the rally with a walk, and later scored on a balk committed by Gabay. With the bases loaded, Jason Rogers drove home Jamar Walton by way of a sacrifice fly for the second run of the inning. Two batters later with the bases still loaded with Bees, Josh Thole was hit by a pitch which allowed Deibinson Romero to cross the plate after he was intentionally walked earlier in the frame. The run support was more than enough for Hamburger, who registered his third quality start of the campaign, tying him with Andy Van Hekken and Kyle Simon for the club lead. Romero and James Skelton each had a pair of hits for the Bees. Photo provided courtesy of Joe Doll.
