Bees Acquire All-Star Dececco
February 9, 2006 - Central Hockey League (CHL)
Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees News Release
Hidalgo, Texas --- The Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees today acquired All Star winger Bret DeCecco (deh-CHECK-oh) from the Fort Worth Brahmas in exchange for center Bobby Davis and future considerations. DeCecco is expected to join the Killer Bees in time for Friday night's home game vs. Amarillo.
DeCecco represented Fort Worth at the 2006 Obra Homes CHL All Star Game, picking up a goal and two assists, and was third in scoring with the Brahmas (18-14-32). The 25-year-old Sherwood Park, Alberta, native played in San Angelo last season and spent the previous three campaigns in the ECHL. Among his teammates in San Angelo were Killer Bees Matt Medley, Trevor Weisgerber and Nathan Rosychuk. The 5-foot-11, 189-pounder was drafted by the Buffalo Sabres in the seventh round of the 1999 NHL Draft.
Davis, 30, departs the Killer Bees seventh in scoring with 10 goals and 13 assists. He centered a line with Bill Newson and Ryan Shmyr, and is known for his explosive speed. A native of Woodhaven, Mich., Davis and Newson were also college teammates at Northeastern University.
"I tried to get Bret here over the summer, but it didn't work out," said Killer Bees Head Coach Tracy Egeland. "He's an All Star that should fit in well with our identity. It's never easy to give up someone like Bobby who has been here from the start of the season and gave me everything he had. On the same hand, it's not every day you can make a deal for someone of Bret's caliber. To get someone like that, you have to give up someone of quality."
The future considerations of this trade will be executed following the completion of the 2005-2006 Central Hockey League playing season.
The Killer Bees travel to Laredo for a 7:05 p.m. face off tonight, and return home for a pair of games this weekend. They face Amarillo Friday at 7:30 p.m. and Corpus Christi Sunday at 6:00 p.m.
