Beasley Nabs Late Game Winner

Milwaukee, WI – Jamar Beasley scored the game-winning power play goal with under two minutes left in the game as the Kansas City Comets squeezed past the San Diego Sockers 4-3 in their final game of the 2003 MISL Easter Seals Preseason Classic at US Cellular Arena in Milwaukee. The game was played in two 24-minute halves with a running clock. The Comets finish the tournament with a 1-2 record, having lost to the Baltimore Blast 3-1 and the Philadelphia KiXX 4-3 on Friday.

Beasley's decisive score was his second of the game, and marked his second two-goal performance of the tournament. He scored twice in a 4-3 loss to Philadelphia on Friday night.

San Diego's Nino DaSilva (1:10) and Mariano Bollella (14:50) sandwiched tallies around Beasley's first score at 5:10 of the first half. After Kansas City's Miodrag Djerisilo tied the contest at 21:35, the Sockers' Adriano Lima converted a shootout opportunity at 23:03 to give San Diego a 3-2 lead heading into the half.

Kansas City controlled the second half. Casey Barton's goal at 16:30 to tie the game at 3-3, setting the stage for Beasley's late heroics.

Winning goalkeeper DJ Horvath saved 10 of 12 shots in goal for the Comets. Riley Swift (five saves) took the loss for the Sockers. Brian Soell notched two assists for Kansas City.

The Comets will open their 2003-04 regular season when they host the Steamers at Kemper Arena on Saturday, October 11. Kickoff is 7:35 p.m. Central Time.
