Newark Bears News Release

NEWARK, NJ, August 28-The Newark Bears today announced that the club will celebrate the eighteen-year National Hockey League career of New Jersey Devils defenseman Ken Daneyko with a special night at Bears and Eagles Riverfront Stadium on Saturday, September the 13th. That evening the Bears will host the Pennsylvania Road Warriors in a 6:05 PM start and there will also be a post-game fireworks extravaganza sponsored by Shop Rite.

"In the past two decades Ken Daneyko has proven to be one of the most popular and successful athletes in New Jersey and I am excited that the Newark Bears organization has the opportunity to hold a night in his honor," said Bears Vice President and General Manager Chris Bryan.

Daneyko, who retired this summer after helping the Devils capture their third Stanley Cup Championship, played in a franchise record 1,283 regular season and 175 playoff games in his career. He is also the Devils all-time penalty minutes leader with 2,519.

"I am really looking forward to this event," said Daneyko. "I have always had a special relationship with the people in New Jersey, perhaps because of my blue-collar style, and my family and I are proud to have made New Jersey our home. It is quite appropriate that the Bears are holding this night for me in the heart of New Jersey, the city of Newark."

Along with signing autographs and throwing out the first pitch, Daneyko, who is a lifelong baseball fan, will take batting practice with the Bears prior to the game. Gates will be opened early on the 13th so that fans can watch Daneyko's batting practice session.

"And I promise a few more surprises for the fans that night, as well," said Bryan, who added that the team will announce further details within the next week.

Tickets for the September 13th game between the Bears and the Road Warriors are available at the team's box office, which is located at Bears and Eagles Riverfront Stadium, online at www.NewarkBears.com or by calling (973) 483-6900.
