Newark Bears News Release

NEWARK, NJ - A three-run home run by designated hitter Randall Simon started a six-run fifth inning and carried the Newark Bears to a 10-2 win over the York Revolution in game two of a doubleheader on Wednesday night at Bears & Eagles Riverfront Stadium. The win extends the Bears winning streak to seven games.

Right fielder Jose Herrera's RBI triple gave the Bears a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning. The hit extended Herrera's hitting streak to eleven games, tying the Bears season high set by Cory Aldridge earlier this year.

The Bears added another run in the bottom of the third with shortstop Ramon Castro's solo home run. This was Castro's second home run of the season and brought the score to 2-0

The Revolution tied the game in the top of the fifth with a long double by designated hitter Matt Dryer, but Aldridge responded with an RBI double of his own in the bottom of the fifth to bring the score to 3-2 before Simon's homerun made the score 6-2.

The Bears recorded a total of five extra base hits during the game: Herrera's triple, Aldridge's double, doubles by catcher Scott Knazek and second baseman Bobby Hill also in the bottom of the fifth, and a double by centerfielder Keith Reed in the bottom of the sixth.

With the win, the Bears have swept all three of their doubleheaders this season.

Will Cunnane (2-0) earned the win, giving up two runs and six hits over five innings. He also walked three and walked none. Travis Phelps suffered the loss.

The Bears continue their seven-game homestand tomorrow with an 11:05 game against the York Revolution. For great tickets to that game or any other Bears home game please call 1-866-55-4BEAR or visit the Bears website www.newarkbears.com. -
