NEWARK, NJ - The Newark Bears lost game two of the doubleheader against the Lancaster Barnstormers 4-0 Saturday evening at Bears and Eagles Riverfront Stadium. The loss marks the first time the Bears have been swept in a doubleheader since the 2002 season.

Barnstormers starter Denny Harriger (4-1) earned the victory after seven scoreless innings, allowing seven hits while striking out three. Bears starter Fernando Rijo (0-2) took the loss after giving up four runs on seven hits, while striking out 11 batters in seven innings. His 11 strikeouts passed the single season mark for 2006 set by Jeriome Robertson on May 5th in Bridgeport.

The Barnstormers took an early lead in the top of the second inning with two runs, highlighted by an RBI single by second baseman Travis Hake, and finished the scoring in the top of the sixth inning with a home run to right field by right fielder Chris Van Rossum, his first of the season. Van Rossum led the Barnstormers going 2-for-3 with a run scored and RBI.

For the Bears, left fielder Jose Herrera and center fielder Al Benjamin each went 2-for-3 at the plate, and third baseman Lipso Nava went 1-for-3 with his third double of the season.

The Bears and Barnstormers will play the final game of the three game series Sunday afternoon at Bears and Eagles Riverfront Stadium, with first pitch scheduled for 1:35 pm. Pat Daneker (2-1) will make his seventh start of the season for the Bears, while former Bear Andy Zwirchitz (2-3) will make his seventh start of the season, and first start at The Den since being traded to Lancaster during the off-season.
