Bears End Five-Game Losing Streak With 2 Wins

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. - After nearly a month of close games and heartbreaking losses, the Ice Bears ended their five-game losing streak on Legends Night (Friday night) in front of a record crowd after beating the second place Winston-Salem T-Birds 5-2. With the momentum gained from an amazing win on Friday night, the Ice Bears finished their two-game home stand with another win against the T-Birds 4-1, but couldn't sweep the T-Birds as they lost in Winston-Salem on Sunday 4-3.

UPCOMING GAMES AND PROMOTIONS

Thursday, January 29 - Winston-Salem at Knoxville, 7:30 PM EST

The Ice Bears will face the T-Birds for the eleventh time this season. Knoxville has won six of the times the two teams have met. Two of those wins came this past weekend. Thursday will also be college and carload night. Pile as many people as you can into one car for $20 and when you get inside enjoy two-for-one ice-cold beverages and select food items.

Saturday, January 31 - Huntsville at Knoxville, 7:30 PM EST

The Ice Bears nemesis, the Huntsville Channel Cats, returns to the Civic Coliseum on Saturday night. In 13 meetings, the Ice Bears have won only three and will be looking for a big home win against the first place Cats. Saturday night is Pride in America night. The Ice Bears will be wearing special American jerseys that will be auctioned off and service men and women will receive $5 tickets.

WEEK IN REVIEW

Friday, January 16 - Winston-Salem 2 at Knoxville 5

With defenseman Alex Alepin back on the ice for the Bears and the addition of some new players that helped to add an extra punch, the Ice Bears looked unbeatable against the T-Birds on Friday night. Rookie forward Tom McMonagle added two goals and two assists to help secure the win for Knoxville. Craig Desjarlais and Bob Rangus each added one goal and one assist and Ice Bears Captain Todd MacIsaac added one goal and three assists. Blaine Russell got the win for Knoxville while Winston-Salem goalie Cam McCormick took the loss.

Saturday, January 17 - Winston-Salem 1 at Knoxville 4

After the much needed and deserved win against the T-Birds on Friday, the Bears regrouped and managed another spectacular victory over the second place team. Newcomer Chris Bodnar didn't waste any time showing Ice Bear fans what he can do for the team. He tallied his first two goals and two assists for the Bears. Rookie forward Tom McMonagle added another two goals and two assists to his mounting stats.

Sunday, January 18 - Knoxville 3 at Winston-Salem 4

The Ice Bears couldn't make the sweep of the T-Birds as they fell to them late in the third period. Goalie Blaine Russell became ill and was replaced by rookie goaltender Kevin Block. K.J. Voorhees and Tom McMonagle each added one goal and one assist and Todd MacIsaac added a goal as well.

THREE STARS OF THE WEEK

1. Tom McMonagle, F - After getting off to a slow start with the Ice Bears, McMonagle has stepped up his play in the last several games. He finished the week with 5 goals and 3 assists.

2. Todd MacIsaac, F - MacIsaac has always had a knack for stepping up when the team needs him. On the week he had 2 goals and three assists.

3. Blaine Russell, G - The Ice Bears couldn't have won any of their games without the outstanding work of Russell, who played through a minor illness part of Saturday and Sunday. Russell, who played only one period on Sunday, finished the weekend 2-0 and only had 5 GA all weekend. Block took the loss for the Ice Bears on Sunday.
