Yakima Bears News Release

PASCO, Wash. - The Yakima Bears (23-40) loaded the bases with one out in the top of the ninth but couldn't deliver any runs as the Tri-City Dust Devils (37-26) hung on 7-6 in a nail biter at Gesa Stadium Monday night.

Yakima took their only lead of the game on a Ryan Wheeler two-out, two-run double in the top of the third inning to go ahead 2-1. Tri-City, however, would answer with four runs to knock Bears' starter Ariel Brea out of the ballgame.

From there the Bears would pull within one on two separate occasions but could never climb all the way back into the game as they dropped their fourth out of five this year against the Devils.

Brea (0-1) pitched 2 1/3 innings, allowing five runs on six hits to take the loss. Rod Scurry (5-1) tossed 2 1/3 innings out the bullpen, allowing two runs - none earned - on one hit to pick up the victory. Rhett Ballard struck out Matt Davidson and Matt Helm with the bases loaded in the ninth to earn his first save of the season.

Wheeler drove in four runs for Yakima in the loss. Dan Kaczrowski had a nice evening, going 3-for-5 with two runs and an RBI triple.

With the loss tonight, the Bears have officially been eliminated from playoff contention.

Tuesday night the two squads will be back for the finale at 7:15. Chris Odegaard (1-6, 4.21 ERA) gets the start for Yakima against Dan Perkins (2-2, 2.65 ERA) for Tri-City.

All 76 games can be heard on KUTI 1460 AM and are also available streaming via the internet at www.yakimabears.com.

Yakima Bears single-game tickets, season tickets and seven new mini plans are on sale now at the new downtown Bears office at 17 N. 3rd Street, Suite 101 and online at yakimabears.com.
