Hershey Bears News Release
PROVIDENCE, R.I. - Jamie Tardif tallied three points and Michael Hutchinson stopped 23 shots to help the Providence Bruins earn a 6-0 win over the HERSHEY BEARS on Friday night at Dunkin' Donuts Center.
The hosts outshot the BEARS by a 12-6 margin in the first period, some of the shots coming on two power play opportunities. The BEARS' penalty kill, coupled with solid goaltending from Dany Sabourin, kept Providence off of the score sheet.
After the BEARS went unsuccessful on their carry-over power play from the first period, the P-Bruins struck first. Carrying the puck down the right wing after collecting a pass from Colby Cohen, Jamie Tardif let a wrist shot go that eluded Sabourin through the skates at 3:02.
Tardif then passed to Kevan Miller at center ice, who let a slap shot fly from the neutral zone. The puck dipped down on its way to the net, and beat Sabourin under the glove at 5:58. Tardif then made it 3-0 at 14:48, scoring on a forehand wraparound shot.
Braden Holtby then came on in relief and stopped both shots he faced.
The turning point came early in the third, when the BEARS were unable to score with 1:12 worth of two-man advantage time. The Bruins earned a power play shortly after and made it 4-0 when Cohen's slap shot sailed past Holtby at 5:04.
Craig Cunningham made it 5-0, picking up a loose puck from a scrum in front and depositing it into the net at 9:16. He then closed out the scoring, cleaning up the rebound of Jamie Arniel's drive down the left wing with one minute left.
Sabourin falls to 10-8-1 with the loss, making 21 saves on 24 shots in 34:48 of work. Holtby earned no decision, with seven saves on 10 shots in 25:12 of action. Hutchinson improved to 5-9-0.
The BEARS ended the night 0-for-4 on the power play and 3-for-5 on the penalty kill.
The BEARS will continue their road trip tomorrow, February 18 with a 7:00 PM faceoff in New Hampshire as they battle the Manchester Monarchs. The team returns home to host the Norfolk Admirals on Saturday, February 25 with faceoff at 7:00 PM. Individual tickets for this and all regular-season home games are on sale now by calling (717) 508-BEAR, or by visiting ticketmaster.com.
